What Is a Heated Steering Wheel?
The Heated Steering Wheel is a JLR‑engineered component that houses a 12 V resistive heating element and an NTC temperature sensor. When the HVAC system requests heat, the element raises the surface temperature to 38 °C ± 2 °C in roughly 30 seconds, giving the driver a warm handhold in cold weather.
All Jaguar Land Rover models built from 2017 onward use the same heating module (OEM part # JPLA‑20H021‑BP). The electrical integration differs between the Jaguar and Land Rover platforms, but the core hardware is identical.

Wiring & Integration
The heater is powered through the BCM‑controlled “Steering‑Wheel‑Heater” relay (relay‑ID R10). The 4‑pin harness is colour‑coded as follows:

Programming the Heated Steering Wheel (TOPIx Workflow)
1️⃣ Preparation
- Park the vehicle, engage the hand‑brake and turn the ignition to “ON”.
- Connect a 70 A + battery maintainer to keep voltage stable during the flash.
- Insert a certified
JLR Enet Wi‑Fiadapter into the OBD‑II port. - Launch TOPIx on a laptop with internet access; log in with engineering credentials.
2️⃣ Verify Existing CCF
- In TOPIx select Vehicle → Identify → BCM and click “Read CCF”.
- Locate the flag
SteeringWheelHeaterEnabled(normally0on non‑heated builds).
3️⃣ Enable the Heater
- Change
SteeringWheelHeaterEnabledto1. - Save the edited CCF and press **Write CCF** – TOPIx automatically recomputes the checksum.
- After a successful write, run BCM → Self‑Test → Heater to verify relay activation.
4️⃣ Calibration & Confirmation
- Open HCU → Calibration → Heater and run the **Heater Calibration Wizard**. The wizard measures the NTC sensor and updates the target temperature curve.
- Activate the heater from the infotainment UI; the surface should reach 38 °C within 30 seconds.
- Clear any DTCs that may have appeared (e.g.,
C0A52‑00 – Steering Wheel Heater Fault) using the “Clear Fault Codes” command.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I retrofit a Heated Steering Wheel onto a vehicle that was not originally equipped with it?
Yes. As long as the BCM contains the “Steering‑Wheel‑Heater” relay (R10), the OEM heater module can be installed and enabled via TOPIx.
Will the heater affect the vehicle’s overall power consumption?
The heater draws a maximum of 30 W (≈ 2.5 A). When the climate system is off, the BCM keeps the relay open, so no power is consumed.
Is the Heated Steering Wheel covered by JLR warranty?
When installed and calibrated correctly, it enjoys the standard 12‑month/12 000 km warranty. Keep the calibration checksum as proof of proper installation.
What DTC indicates a heater fault?
The primary fault code is C0A52‑00 – Steering Wheel Heater Fault. After re‑enabling the heater and confirming temperature rise, the code can be cleared.
