Technical Overview

Land Rover introduced the Configurable Driver Assist (CDA) package for the 2024 model‑year (MY24) Defender L663 as a modular, software‑driven suite that can be enabled in‑shop without any mechanical changes. Consequently, CDA consolidates the following advanced driver‑aid functions:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) – radar‑based speed matching with automatic stop‑and‑go.
  • Lane‑Keep Assist (LKA) – subtle steering torque to keep the vehicle centred.
  • Traffic‑Jam Assist (TJA) – low‑speed manoeuvre support in congested traffic.
  • Emergency Braking (AEB) – forward‑collision mitigation.
  • Driver‑Assist Configurator – in‑vehicle menu that lets the owner enable or disable individual features.

Moreover, from a JLR service‑centre perspective the hardware is already pre‑installed on all MY24 Defenders: front‑mounted radar, an upgraded steering‑angle sensor, and a CAN‑bus‑ready ADAS ECU (part 8U1020).   3. Software enable: In TechTool → Vehicle Setup → Driver Assist, select “Enable Configurable Driver Assist”. Consequently, the tool writes the activation flag to the ADAS ECU and updates the TCM flash if the latest CDA firmware (v1.3) is not present.
  4. Calibration: Run the “Steering‑Angle Sensor Calibration” routine, and then the “Radar Align” procedure to ensure ACC accuracy.
  5. Feature configuration: Use the in‑vehicle Driver‑Assist Configurator menu to turn on/off each function according to the customer’s preference.
  6. Functional test: Perform a road‑test:
    • ACC – set speed and verify automatic following distance.
