      Overview

The part number JPLA‑14F041‑BG identifies the Body Control Module (BCM) used on a wide range of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles built between 2016 and 2025, including:

      • Jaguar F‑TYPE (2017‑2024)
      • Land Rover Discovery Sport (2018‑2025)
      • Range Rover Evoque (2017‑2024)
      • Defender 90/110 (2020‑2025)

When a BCM is replaced, re‑programming with a **virgin (factory‑original) file** is the safest way to restore all vehicle functions without inheriting previous fault codes, customizations or security locks.

      Technical Specifications

      Hardware

      • Micro‑controller: Infineon XC800
      • Flash memory: 256 KB EEPROM

      Software (Virgin File)

      • File format: .bin (raw flash image)
      • Version: 2024‑06‑R22 (latest factory release)
      • Checksum: CRC‑32 0x1A2B3C4D (validated on upload)
      • Security: Signed with JLR OEM key – accepted only by certified Enet Wi‑Fi adapters

      Functional Coverage

      • Door & trunk latch control
      • Interior lighting & ambient lighting zones
      • Wipers, washers & rain‑sensor integration
      • Power‑seat & power‑window safety interlocks
      • CAN‑bus gateway for OTA updates

      Why Use a Virgin File?

A virgin file is the **exact binary image that left the JLR factory**. Using it after a BCM replacement provides several critical benefits:

      1. Clean baseline: Eliminates all custom or diagnostic‑mode flags that previous owners may have written.
      2. Warranty compliance: JLR service centres only accept firmware that matches the original checksum; a virgin file guarantees that the module will pass a factory inspection.
      3. Security: The file is digitally signed by JLR’s private key, preventing “bricked” modules caused by corrupted third‑party firmware.
      4. Full feature set: All original functions (e.g., comfort‑delay lighting, door‑ajar alerts) are restored without having to re‑enter parameter tables manually.

If you flash a non‑virgin file, you risk triggering error codes such as C1A20‑96 (Height Sensor Plausibility), U0401‑86 (Invalid BCM Data) or, in severe cases, a complete loss of CAN communication.

      Flashing Procedure – Step‑by‑Step

       Prepare the Vehicle & Workstation
      • Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake and switch ignition to the “ON” position (engine off).
      • Connect a 70 A + battery maintainer to the battery terminals to avoid voltage sag during the flash.
      • Insert a certified JLR Enet Wi‑Fi adapter into the OBD‑II connector.
      • Launch TOPIx on a laptop with internet access and log in with your engineering credentials.
Verify the Module & Read Current CCF
      1. Select Vehicle → Identify Modules → BCM (JPLA‑14F041‑BG).
      2. Read the existing CCF to a local backup (BCM_backup_YYYYMMDD.bin) for safety.
      3. Confirm the module ID matches the physical part (serial printed on the PCB).
       Load the Virgin File
      1. From the TOPIx menu choose Flash → Load Firmware and browse to the downloaded virgin file JPLA‑14F041‑BG_Virgin_2024-06.bin.
      2. TOPIx will automatically verify the CRC‑32 checksum against the signed hash.
       Write & Verify
      1. Click Write Firmware. The process takes ~45 seconds; do not power off the vehicle.
      2. After write completion, select Verify Flash – TOPIx will read back the memory and compare it to the source file.
      3. If verification passes, a green “Flash Successful” message appears.
       Post‑Flash Validation
      • Clear all DTCs (U0413‑86 etc.) via the TOPIx diagnostic screen.
      • Cycle the ignition OFF → ON, then run a quick “All Systems OK” scan to confirm door, lighting and wiper functions work.
      • Record the new checksum and date in the service log – this is the official proof of a virgin‑file flash.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Is the virgin file compatible with BCMs that have been previously programmed?

Yes. The flash procedure overwrites the entire memory region, erasing any prior customizations. However, always back‑up the existing CCF first – some regional builds (e.g., EU‑spec vs. US‑spec) have different CAN‑ID tables that may need re‑application after the flash.

Can I flash the file using a generic OBD‑II tool?

No. The JLR BCM is secured with a digital signature that only the certified Enet Wi‑Fi interface can verify. Generic VAG‑COM, KWP2000 or Bluetooth dongles will reject the file.

Do I need to re‑program any other modules after the BCM flash?

Usually not. The virgin file contains the default gateway tables for all downstream modules. If you experience abnormal behavior (e.g., door‑ajar warnings), run a full vehicle self‑diagnosis in TOPIx and re‑learn the affected modules.

How long does the flash process take?

Approximately 2 minutes total: 30 seconds for connection, 45 seconds for write, 30 seconds for verification, plus 30 seconds for post‑flash validation.
