Advanced Tow Assist Retrofit & OEM DOIP Coding | JLR Trailer Reverse Guidance Upgrade
Short Description
Our Advanced Tow Assist package provides OEM‑grade TBM Tow‑Bar Module hardware installation for modern DOiP‑architecture Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. Furthermore, many base‑spec chassis have mechanical mounting provisions for towing components.
Meanwhile, these lower trim levels omit the TBM control unit, dedicated 13‑pin CAN‑integrated trailer harness and required CCF build flags. Simply bolting on a tow‑bar and trailer electrics will never unlock Advanced Tow Assist full functionality.
Therefore, without validated CCF configuration, vehicle modules cannot synchronise towing‑domain signals. As a result, the ECU stack logs towing‑related DTC faults, hides Pivi Pro tow menus and fails to render dynamic trailer trajectory overlays. In addition, our technicians use official Pathfinder diagnostics to apply validated CCF edits for full feature operation across CAN‑FD networks.
Technical Overview
JLR Advanced Tow Assist is an OEM ADAS towing system built for controlled trailer reversing and active sway mitigation. First of all, the TBM acts as the master controller for all trailer‑side electrical communication.
It exchanges CAN‑FD status frames with the SVA‑M surround‑vision analysis module. SVA‑M processes feeds from the factory 360‑degree camera system to calculate the projected trailer driving path.
Next, drivers input their intended trailer direction via the Pivi Pro touchscreen. The vehicle then automatically computes and applies steering angles to follow the selected target trajectory.
Moreover, Trailer Stability Assist works alongside DBC dynamic brake controller to detect dangerous trailer oscillation. When sway events occur, it triggers selective wheel braking and torque reduction to stabilise the trailer.
This safety function depends on valid wheel‑speed, yaw‑rate and steering‑angle data from the vehicle dynamic domain. Even so, physical hardware alone cannot activate this complete feature‑set.
Instead, your vehicle CCF build‑file must confirm that TBM and Advanced Tow Assist hardware are physically fitted. Conversely, unvalidated third‑party coding cannot replicate factory trajectory‑mapping or sway‑intervention thresholds.
Poor‑quality configuration will trigger intermittent DTC faults, blank guidance overlays or persistent amber towing warning lamps. For this reason, our programming strictly follows official JLR workshop technical standards.
We only apply approved CCF‑flag changes and avoid irreversible ECU flashing. In turn, native ABS, DSC, parking‑aid and Pivi Pro media functions remain fully intact after coding completion.
Core OEM Features After Activation
Once hardware fitment and DOIP calibration finish, Advanced Tow Assist runs strictly to original JLR factory specifications. Most importantly, dynamic colour‑coded trailer trajectory lines render on the Pivi Pro surround‑view screen.
Drivers can manually adjust trailer‑width parameters to match their connected trailer. Besides that, Trailer Stability Assist stays active during highway forward towing to suppress dangerous trailer sway.
The system continuously monitors trailer‑lighting circuits and reports bulb‑fault alerts on the instrument cluster. At the same time, camera, steering and brake‑system signals transmit correctly across the CAN‑FD bus without communication conflicts.
Key Technical & Functional Benefits
- Genuine OEM TBM & 13‑Pin Harness Fitment: Professional installation of tow‑bar control module, CAN‑integrated trailer wiring and mounting hardware following JLR service procedures.
- Multi‑Module DOIP CCF Synchronisation: Pathfinder programming enables Advanced Tow Assist flags in TBM, DBC, SVA‑M, IMC and GWM gateway.
- Full Factory Feature Activation: Trailer reverse guidance, touchscreen trajectory control, Trailer Stability Assist and Pivi Pro towing menu access.
- Preserved Vehicle Dynamic Safety: Retains OEM sway‑intervention logic, brake‑modulation rules and diagnostic monitoring routines.
- Post‑Coding Functional Validation: Static and practical testing clears residual DTCs and verifies camera overlay, lamp monitoring and stability response.
- Reversible CCF Configuration: Settings can revert back to base vehicle build without permanent module modification.
Vehicle Compatibility
This retrofit service supports DOiP EVA2.0 Jaguar Land Rover platforms fitted with factory SVA‑M 360‑degree surround‑vision hardware. Supported models include New Range Rover L460, Range Rover Sport L461, Defender L663, Velar L560 and Discovery 5 L462.
On one hand, some vehicles already include tow‑bar brackets and partial wiring. On the other hand, other vehicles need the complete TBM and 13‑pin harness retrofit kit. Notably, units without factory SVA‑M hardware or incompatible firmware cannot use this upgrade.
Before technicians start physical or coding‑work, we run a full pre‑upgrade diagnostic scan. It validates module firmware versions, CAN‑FD bus health and mechanical fitment eligibility status.
Service Process
To begin with, we perform a full diagnostic scan across TBM, DBC, SVA‑M, IMC and GWM. We capture existing DTC fault codes and confirm baseline vehicle‑network health status.
Our technicians install the OEM TBM assembly, 13‑pin trailer harness and mounting fixtures. They complete all connector terminations and earth‑point connections per JLR workshop service procedures.
After mechanical work finishes, we execute official Pathfinder DOIP CCF programming. This step activates Advanced Tow Assist build flags and synchronises all relevant modules on the CAN‑FD vehicle‑network.
Afterwards, we verify trailer‑lamp feedback, touch‑screen menu entry, trajectory overlay output and Trailer Stability Assist readiness. Finally, we clear all residual fault‑codes and run final road validation before customer hand‑over.
