Wireless device charging

Product Overview (JLR OEM‑Spec Infotainment‑Convenience Retrofit)

Wireless device charging delivers genuine OEM Qi‑standard cable‑free smartphone‑charging functionality for DOIP‑based JLR Defender L663 vehicles. However, many base‑ and mid‑trim Defender variants omit the WCPM wireless‑charging‑pad module and centre‑console charging‑pad trim hardware. Even on vehicles where the physical pad hardware is pre‑installed, locked CCF trim‑level feature flags disable charging‑logic and status notifications. As a result, occupants must rely on wired USB‑C connections for smartphone power supply. If you aim to build a complete infotainment‑convenience package, pair this retrofit with our Interactive Driver Display (TFT cluster). It combines wireless device‑charging convenience with full‑digital driver‑instrument‑cluster feedback. This kit supplies genuine OEM WCPM wireless‑charging‑pad assembly, centre‑console trim insert, dedicated LIN‑bus wiring pigtails and all mounting fasteners. In turn, it unlocks Qi‑compliant inductive charging, foreign‑object‑detection (FOD), thermal‑overheat protection and charging‑status pop‑up notifications within the Pivi Pro infotainment system.

First of all, full Wireless device‑charging functionality will never activate purely from WCPM charging‑pad hardware fit‑out alone. Next, technicians perform partial centre‑console trim disassembly, install the OEM WCPM wireless‑charging‑pad module inside the storage bin and fit matching console trim insert. They route dedicated LIN‑bus communication wiring and verify every WCPM electrical‑connector locking position. After that, our jlrcoding team completes a comprehensive DOIP diagnostic scan. We enable wireless‑device‑charging feature flags within the vehicle CCF configuration file. Furthermore, we perform multi‑parameter adaptation for WCPM wireless‑charging‑pad‑module, BCM body‑control‑module, GWM gateway‑module and IAM infotainment‑master‑module. Once coding finishes, WCPM manages inductive‑power output cycles for compatible Qi‑enabled mobile devices. Meanwhile, charging‑state alerts and foreign‑object‑detection warnings appear on the Pivi Pro touch‑screen. For this reason, check our Configurable Ambient Interior Lighting if you would like to complement infotainment‑convenience upgrades with customisable multi‑zone cabin illumination.

Hardware & Operating Logic

This retrofit provides OEM WCPM wireless‑charging‑pad assembly, centre‑console trim insert, LIN‑bus wiring looms, vehicle‑specific pigtails and all required mounting fasteners. The WCPM module regulates inductive power‑output, monitors foreign‑object‑detection (FOD) sensor readings and enforces thermal‑safety limits for the charging pad. Subsequently, charging‑active‑status, FOD‑alert and thermal‑fault‑warning messages travel over LIN‑bus and CAN‑FD bus toward BCM, GWM and IAM modules. Once a Qi‑compatible smartphone is correctly positioned on the charging surface, inductive charging initiates automatically. If metal foreign‑objects are detected on the pad, FOD logic immediately halts power transfer to prevent heat‑build‑up risk. Built‑in thermal monitoring reduces or cuts output under high‑temperature operating‑conditions. All charging‑power‑profiles, FOD‑trigger‑thresholds and warning‑notification‑behaviour strictly complies with original JLR factory L663 specifications. Notably, the system works alongside existing vehicle USB‑A / USB‑C ports without interfering with wired‑data‑connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Even so, inductive‑charging cycles and Pivi Pro status‑notification entries remain dormant after purely mechanical WCPM‑hardware fitment. Rather, they require authorised DOIP multi‑module programming plus FOD‑sensor relearn calibration to operate correctly. Finally, combine this infotainment‑convenience upgrade with Cabin Air Ionisation to complete interior‑comfort and occupant‑wellbeing feature‑set improvements.

Vehicle Eligibility & Technical Pre‑Conditions

This Wireless device charging retrofit suits 2020+ Defender L663 90, 110 and 130 models. The vehicle must support WCPM‑managed LIN‑bus architecture and offer physical centre‑console‑storage‑bin mounting‑space for the wireless‑charging‑pad assembly. Therefore, submit your VIN number first. We inspect existing WCPM‑compatible BCM, GWM and IAM firmware revisions before starting centre‑console‑trim disassembly work.

Local workshop tasks include partial centre‑console‑trim removal, WCPM charging‑pad installation and trim‑insert fitment. Technicians route and secure LIN‑bus harness connections for the wireless‑charging subsystem. In some cases, base‑level vehicles require supplementary wiring upgrades to satisfy JLR WCPM LIN‑bus signal‑circuit requirements. When hardware installation finishes, we create a secure backup of your original CCF file. We enable the wireless‑device‑charging feature flags. Then we execute FOD‑sensor relearn calibration, charging‑power‑profile parameter tuning and thermal‑safety‑limit validation. Last of all, we clear all wireless‑charging‑related DTC fault codes.

You can pair local fitting with our worldwide remote coding service. Remote sessions require a DOIP‑VCI or Enet Type‑C cable. In short, follow the standard jlrcoding remote‑service workflow.

Key Technical & Practical Benefits

  • OEM Qi‑Standard Inductive Wireless‑Charging: Genuine JLR WCPM hardware delivers cable‑free inductive charging for Qi‑compatible smartphones within the factory centre‑console storage bin.
  • Foreign‑Object‑Detection plus Thermal‑Safety‑Protection: Native FOD‑sensor detection halts power transfer when metal‑objects are present; built‑in thermal cut‑off safeguards pad and device hardware against over‑heating risks.
  • Native LIN‑bus / CAN‑FD Multi‑Module Integration: WCPM communicates with BCM, GWM and IAM following factory JLR infotainment‑system‑logic; charging‑status pop‑up notifications integrated within Pivi Pro user‑interface, no aftermarket third‑party charging‑modules required.
  • Professional DOIP Wireless‑Charging‑System Calibration: CCF feature‑flag activation plus FOD‑sensor relearn removes wireless‑charging‑related DTC faults and guarantees stable cross‑module‑bus communication.

Quality Assurance & Service Notes

Every retrofit starts with pre‑install diagnostic health‑check and original CCF backup. After coding completes, we verify Qi‑charging initiation performance, foreign‑object‑detection response, thermal‑safety‑limit behaviour and Pivi Pro charging‑status‑notification visibility. Importantly, hardware‑only WCPM charging‑pad fitment cannot deliver fully‑compliant factory Wireless device charging functionality.

Otherwise, incomplete adaptation or mis‑calibrated FOD‑sensor‑parameters produce intermittent charging‑initiation, false foreign‑object‑alerts or persistent wireless‑charging‑related DTC fault codes. Ultimately, once fully calibrated, this OEM‑spec upgrade streamlines smartphone‑power‑supply during journeys. It works well for daily commuters, family‑shared vehicles and Defender overland‑focused owners.
